WeeChat development
The next major version of WeeChat has already got underway with the announcement on the WeeChat homepage stating that ther eis to be a whole new line of development
which will make the client not only quicker but more portable than ever. One of the screenshots on the wikipage shows Weechat with a scripted version of the age old game Tetris dubbed WeeTris being played while chatting in IRC showing the extendability of the client. The official announcement reads like so:
Next WeeChat version (codename "revolution") is under development. Large part of code was rewritten, it's now faster, easier, and more extensible. List of new features and screenshots can be found on wiki page (see link below).
Today there's no planed release date, some features are still missing, and there's lot of work until a stable version. We need help, like beta testers, to test this version. You can look at wiki page for more info.

DMDirc Cleanup
Chris of the DMDirc team has announced that there has been several improvements to there homepage as well as the move away from the google code repositories due to
poor services provided by google. This change comes complete with a whole new site which is looking fantastic. The announcement reads like so:
As you may have noticed if you're a regular visitor, the DMDirc website has recently been given a lick of paint. There is now a common header across all of the DMDirc sites (the main website, addons site, bug tracker and blog), which allows easy navigation between all aspects of the DMDirc website, and is a lot better looking than the old header, too!
EPIC Releases
The first release of the year of 2008 for the EPIC team brings to the table several fixes in there previous versions and is looked upon as a mainly bugfix release but is
suggested to be updated as soon as possible due to major issues ( well major enough ) in the previous release, announcement like so:
This is a stable alpha release that fixes all of the known issues with epic5-0.3.6 and epic5-0.3.7 and is stable enough to be targeted by scripts and packagers. There were some nasty bugs in epic5-0.3.6 and epic5-0.3.7, so it's recommended that you upgrade to this version if you are using those. Enjoy!

mIRC 6.32 Released
Oddly i missed this one and was totally unaware there had been a release, it was Chain whom prompted me to the release of the latest version via his post on the forums here - so rather than me waffle on about a release i knew nothing about, here is the mIRC announcement as it stands.
This version of mIRC builds on recent releases by focusing on stability and reliability and addressing the various issues that have been reported by users since the last release. It includes cosmetic changes to the interface, fixes, optimizations, and improvements to the scripting language.
In particular, mIRC can now handle longer nick names, channel names, and messages, as well as longer variable values in the scripting language.
Various other changes include:
- Added support for network-specific window position saving.
- Fixed mouse wheel handling of scrolling with high resolution mice.
- A "Check for Updates" option has been added to the mIRC Help menu to automatically check for new versions of mIRC.
- Optimized INI file handling to only update those parts of a file that have changed. This decreases file writes and speeds up a number of features in mIRC, including USB drive usage.
- Improved display speed of text in all windows.
- Fixed multi-byte text-wrapping display issues.
- Fixed and optimized a number of @window display features, including the way tabstops are handled.
- Improved unicode support in the $mp3() identifier.
Leafchat 2.1
A new version of leafchat has come around once again this time in the form of 2.1 there are one or two new features but a hell of a lot of changes in
all departments, some from user reports, some just issues, some auto reported bugs - similar to the way the xchat windows version works and some API changes which plugin coders will be interested in.
The highlighted changes in this release are:
- Channel user status display
- Away status handling
- Automatically close spare windows
- popup notification events
Linkinus 1.3 Released
There has been a fair amount of hype surrounding this latest release from the people behind Linkinus, this version has been quite quick in coming to us
but is packaged, full, to the brim, literally with new features and functions which have to be tipping Linkinus to be the premier mac client for IRC - or at least somewhere amongst those at the peak.
In the mass of changes comes things like a whole rework of the entire GUI, they have added some simple yet much needed new features like automatic reconnection upon abnormal disconnection - a new method to auto complete - there ( in there words ) half baked log viewer has been scrapped in favour of plain text files and spotlight integration to allow easier searching of log files.
All in all Linkinus comes across as a very powerful client with still a whole lot of potential to progress further as it looks to push aside the likes of Snak, IRCle and Colloquy at the top of the mountain for IRC Mac clients
DMDirc 0.5.6 Released
A new version of DMDirc has been released to address a security issue found in the previous release as well as nightly builds. The announcement from
the DMDirc homepage urges all users to upgrade as promptly as possible as this issue effects all minor to current versions.
The announcment itself reads like this:
A security vulnerability has been discovered in DMDirc. The implementation of URL handlers allow specially crafted URLs to execute arbitrary programs on the host system. Only custom URL handlers (those listed as "custom commands" in the 'URL Handlers' section of the preferences panel) are vulnerable, and the user has to click on a malicious URL in order for the vulnerability to be exploited. The DMDirc developers have only been successful in using the vulnerability to launch argument-less programs on Linux, but we cannot guarantee that other platforms are not affected.
We have backported the fix for the exploit to the DMDirc 0.5 tree, and DMDirc 0.5.6 has now been released. We highly recommend that anyone using DMDirc 0.5.5 upgrade to DMDirc 0.5.6. Nightly builds of DMDirc up to and including the build released on the 22nd of May (designated revision 4055) are also vulnerable. A nightly build containing the vulnerability fix will be available for download tonight, and we highly recommend that anyone using DMDirc nightly builds upgrade as soon as it is available.
